| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description These lightweight disc drag reels feature the functionality of the POP Cassette system at a great price. They have a large cork/brass disc drag with a 360 degree drag cover. They also have a wood impregnated handle. These reels are injection molded steel. The POP Cassette system makes it simple to change lines as conditions change.

| Customer Reviews:
Versatility and reasonable price, with an unexpected bonus January 22, 2008 The Argentine-designed STH POP cassette series from Cortland is worth your consideration. It is a very smooth reel, both in line retrieval and drag, once you break the inertia to get the drag wheeling along. The clicker is pleasant, not too noisy. The only minor drawback is that drag, which has a steep inertia to overcome; you may want to hand-strip the first few inches of line when the fish runs just to get the drag rolling. However, I have never suffered a popped tippet, even down to 7X.
Also, the 1.5/2/3 series of reels tend not to allow a lot of backing. The STH POP line is not suitable for bonefishing. On the plus side, maintenance is minimal.
This reel is strictly designed for fresh water use, although I have used it in the surf many times. The reel still performs like new after several years. Be advised that use in salt water voids the warranty.
The reel cosmetics are acceptable; the clear polymer spool is plainly visible, which may bother the purist. However, if you care little about what fellow fishers think, the STH should satisfy you. Spool prices are $10 apiece, so it is possible to carry several line weights in pure floating, sink tip, or lead ka-boom configuration, and spool exchanges take mere seconds.
Here is the bonus feature: never specifically designed to sport a one-way clutch feature, all STH's indeed behave like one-way clutch reels. Cranking down the drag does not force you to use gorilla strength to retrieve line. Also, the switch to left or right hand retrieve takes seconds, with the included tool. Keep this tool on a lanyard or keychain, as it is small and easily misplaced.
I have all four STH reels (the tiny Model 1 has been obsoleted). They have performed yeoman duties for me over the past 17 years, giving me all I ever expected in a modern fly reel. OK, it is not a snob's choice, but I have never encountered a fish that knew the difference, and the STH reels have introduced me to hundreds of fish.
