Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Its OK, but there are better reels out there.   August 8, 2008
I have used Daiwa reels for over 20 years and love their quality. I switched to ultralight fishing a few years ago. I have owned the Daiwa UL underspin, but got rid of it as I just didn't like underspin reels. Several years ago, I purchased a used MC40, but got rid of it because the line just didn't spool off well due to the drag dial being on top over the cone where the line feeds out. So I decided try the minicast MC40 again (this time I was buying new) as I was hoping they had fixed the design or something to address the spooling problems. Well, they haven't. I would not recommend this reel because of the drag knob's location at the top of the cone. It interferes with line respooling (it often knots around the drag knob). 75% of the time, this reel works great and I get good distance even with light lures. But that other 25% of the time is frustrating. I also purchased a Flueger (sp?) UL reel at the same time as this one. That reel I HIGHLY recommend as I've had no problems with it.
